There is now an all-purpose streaming hub in the Apple TV app
Users who wish to buy films or shows can now access the Apple TV Storefront via the iTunes Store app.
Apple introduced an updated Apple TV app as part of its latest software releases on Monday. The tvOS 17.2 update features a new sidebar for the TV app, making it easier to highlight non-Apple TV Plus content. Users can now quickly navigate to other Apple offerings such as MLS Season Pass. The update also provides a convenient shortcut to popular apps like Disney Plus, Max, Prime Video, and Apple’s store, allowing users to easily purchase or rent digital titles for streaming.
Before the update, it was easy for live sports and other streaming options to get lost among Apple’s TV Plus original programming. The new interface takes steps to highlight third-party content, aligning with Apple’s rumored plan to transform the Apple TV app into a comprehensive streaming hub for all content, not just Apple TV Plus.
Another noteworthy change involves Apple’s iTunes apps. When users attempt to purchase a film or TV show, the iTunes app will suggest shopping on Apple TV’s storefront. As of Monday, the iTunes Store app on iPad and iPhone will guide users to the Apple TV iOS app. Similarly, if users try to use the iTunes TV Shows or iTunes Movies apps on their Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD streaming devices, they will be directed to the Apple TV app’s store.
The Store tab has transformed into a convenient all-in-one destination for video-on-demand within the Apple TV app. Users can now easily rent or purchase films, sign up for third-party streaming services, and manage all their purchased movies and shows from the library section in the app.

The updated Apple TV app also introduces a Home section, acting as a central hub showcasing a variety of content options. Users can explore collections such as New Shows & Movies, Top Charts, Trending, and For You, a personalized selection of shows and films curated for each user. This makes it simpler for users to navigate and discover a wide range of content from the app’s homepage.
