Gemini is now Google Bard

It’s a new name, a new app.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a significant rebranding move on Thursday, bidding farewell to the AI model Bard and ushering in the era of Google Gemini. Initially launched as Gemini late last year, hailed as Google’s “largest and most capable AI model,” Bard and Gemini coexisted for a period.

However, Pichai revealed that the entire public-facing AI universe of Google will now be consolidated under various iterations of the Gemini framework.

“In December, we took a significant step on our journey to enhance AI’s utility for everyone by initiating the Gemini era, establishing a new state of the art across diverse text, image, audio, and video benchmarks. Nevertheless, Gemini is transcending its role as merely a set of models. It is now the backbone of an entire ecosystem, encompassing products used by billions daily, APIs, and platforms fostering innovation for developers and businesses,” stated Pichai in a blog post.

Furthermore, Google is integrating Duet AI features into its Workspace under the Gemini product portfolio, with Duet AI rebranded as Gemini for Workspace. Additionally, Duet AI for Cloud is slated to transform into Gemini “in the coming weeks.”

Google has announced that Gemini is presently available in 40 languages on the web. Alongside this, there is a new Gemini app on Android and an updated version of the Google app on iOS. These applications are available for free, providing users with access to the fundamental version of Gemini, referred to simply as the Pro 1.0 AI model.
