A PS5 version of Indiana Jones is being considered by Microsoft

PS5 could receive Indiana Jones and the Great Circle months after Xbox.

Bethesda’s upcoming Indiana Jones game is expected to launch on Sony’s PlayStation 5 console and Xbox and PC. The game “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” was initially revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event.

Although it was announced as an Xbox console exclusive, sources suggest that Bethesda is contemplating a multi-platform approach, considering a later release for the PS5, tentatively aiming for December 2024.

Microsoft is reportedly adopting a new strategy for certain Xbox games, evaluating which titles will remain exclusive to Xbox and which may be extended to other platforms such as the Nintendo Switch or PS5. Indiana Jones seems to be part of this evolving trend towards multi-platform releases.

While the Indiana Jones game will debut as an Xbox console exclusive, the exclusivity period is expected to be relatively short. Bethesda is exploring the possibility of bringing the game to PS5 a few months after the initial launch on Xbox and PC.

It’s important to note that the exact release timing and platform availability are subject to change, as Microsoft is still finalizing its multi-platform approach for Xbox games. Recent reports also indicate that Microsoft is considering cross-platform options for titles like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush.

According to insider information, an announcement regarding Hi-Fi Rush’s availability on non-Xbox platforms is anticipated in the next few weeks. Recent datamined game assets have suggested a potential release for both PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, reports from XboxEra indicate that Microsoft is considering bringing Starfield to PS5, with plans for the game’s “Shattered Space” expansion on Xbox and PC preceding the potential multi-platform release.

In the FTC v. Microsoft case last year, it was revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were initially planned for release on multiple consoles. Testifying during the case, Pete Hines, former head of global publishing at Bethesda, disclosed that Disney originally had a contract for the game on various consoles. However, after Microsoft acquired Bethesda, the deal was amended to make it an Xbox console exclusive.

Hines attributed this change to concerns about potential delays in bringing the game to multiple consoles. He mentioned the complexities of dealing with a licensor, such as Disney, which could introduce significant feedback and extend the development schedule.

The possibility of an Indiana Jones launch on PS5 is now being considered, indicating an internal debate within Microsoft over the decision to bring certain Xbox games to rival consoles. While it appears that Microsoft has resolved some titles extending to PS5 and Nintendo Switch, the specifics of these arrangements are yet to be disclosed. As mentioned previously, the devil will be in the details.
