There may be a new ‘Action’ button on every iPhone 16 model

The ‘Action’ button is a recent addition, exclusive to the pricier iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.

In 2022, Apple released the iPhone 14 and brought a delightful surprise for those opting for the higher-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models: the Dynamic Island. This innovative feature replaced the notorious notch with a cutout display, quickly winning over users.

Fast forward to the iPhone 15 launch, and Apple pleasantly surprised its user base. Unlike its predecessor, the Dynamic Island was no longer an exclusive feature for the pricier models. Apple announced that all four variants – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max – would now boast the coveted Dynamic Island. Essentially, Apple was extending this popular feature, once reserved for premium models, to all iPhone users.

It appears that Apple is gearing up to employ a similar strategy in 2024 with the release of the iPhone 16.

According to MacRumors, there’s substantial evidence indicating that all four models of the upcoming iPhone 16 will feature an Action button. This button was initially introduced by Apple in 2023 as an exclusive feature for the pricier iPhone 15 models.

The Action button, well-received by iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users, replaced the traditional single-purpose mute switch. It allows users to customize the button to perform various functions, such as launching the camera app, toggling the flashlight, recording voice memos, and more.

Furthermore, MacRumors suggests that the Action button on the iPhone 16 series will be a “capacitive-type button,” distinguishing it from a mechanical one. This means it will respond to pressure rather than having a physical movement.

While MacRumors acknowledges that everything is currently in the pre-production stage with the potential for changes, they suggest that considering recent iPhone launches, it seems plausible for Apple to extend the latest premium feature, the Action button, to the base models of the next generation iPhones next year.
