Megan Fox has become a vampire (in the new Mortal Kombat)

In 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 impressed with its gameplay but faced criticism for Ronda Rousey’s Sonya Blade. Now, Mortal Kombat 1 casts Megan Fox as Nitara, a fresh twist on a less iconic character. As we anticipate its release on September 19th, it’s clear the franchise is evolving in gameplay and casting, promising an exciting new chapter.

In 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 graced the gaming world as an exceptional addition to a beloved franchise, managing to avoid the pitfalls of unnecessary complexity that often plague such titles. However, if we had to nitpick one glaring issue (aside from the infuriating final boss), it would undoubtedly be the curious decision to cast real-life fighter Ronda Rousey as the series staple, Sonya Blade. Rousey’s vocal performance left much to be desired, and well, you can simply perform a quick Google search to form your own opinions about her past actions and statements.

Mortal Kombat: Official Megan Fox

Surprisingly, it appears that Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios hasn’t quite learned its lesson when it comes to celebrity voice actors. But this time, they seem to have landed a much cooler and all-around better choice: Megan Fox. She’s set to make her mark in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 as the vampire character Nitara, offering not only her voice but also her likeness to the game. In essence, this could very well become the Jennifer’s Body video game that fans have been secretly yearning for!

Now, Nitara might not be a household name in the Mortal Kombat universe, especially when compared to iconic characters like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Yet, she did make a recent appearance as part of the villainous roster in the latest Mortal Kombat movie, where she met a rather gruesome fate courtesy of Kung-Lao’s razor-sharp hat. It seems the developers might have learned something from their Ronda Rousey experience: with Nitara being a less prominent character, there’s less at stake if Megan Fox’s performance isn’t Oscar-worthy. It’s a brilliant move, really!

And judging by Fox’s initial announcement video, she appears to be a suitable fit for the role. Sure, the video itself is a bit peculiar, with Fox donning a conspicuously oversized pink hat and discussing her role as if she just stumbled upon it while filming the announcement. But that’s perfectly fine. She’s here to declare, “I’ll steal Datusha and kill you with it,” before engaging in some utterly brutal combat. And that’s precisely what she delivers.

It’s set to hit all major gaming platforms on September 19th, promising a fresh take on the timeless brutality of Mortal Kombat lore.
