AVerMedia launches its first HDMI 2.1 USB capture card, priced at $299.99

Almost three years after the release of HDMI 2.1 consoles such as the Xbox Series X and PS5, the market is now witnessing the arrival of HDMI 2.1 capture cards. AVerMedia has introduced its Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1, priced at $299.99, allowing streamers and gamers to fully utilize the latest consoles with 120Hz options while still capturing content at an impressive 4K/60fps resolution.

Streamers have been eagerly anticipating the availability of 4K/60fps capture over USB, given the limited options in the market, especially after Elgato’s 4K 60 S+ was discontinued last year. Until now, many had to resort to PCIe capture cards as an alternative.

AVerMedia’s latest capture card has filled this gap by supporting up to 4K/144Hz pass-through, complete with HDR and VRR support. This means gamers can play at 4K/144Hz on a gaming PC and then capture footage at 4K/60fps on a streaming PC. Additionally, it provides the flexibility to play at 4K/120Hz on the latest consoles while capturing content at 4K/60fps. This versatile solution has been a game-changer for content creators and streamers alike.

At present, AVerMedia’s Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 offers specific pass-through options for various resolutions and refresh rates, albeit not covering the complete HDMI 2.1 specifications. The card currently supports 1080p/240Hz and 1440p/144Hz, with a promised firmware update on October 19th that will add 1440p/240Hz support. However, there is no commitment from AVerMedia regarding 1080p/360Hz support yet. The company has stated that support for additional resolutions will be gradually introduced. Therefore, users with a 360Hz e-sports G-Sync monitor might have to wait for full compatibility with AVerMedia’s Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1.

The Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 includes Gaming Utility software, allowing users to control the RGB lighting on the device and synchronize it with other RGB ecosystems. The card also features a party chat function, enabling gamers to record voice chats during gameplay.
