Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Smartwatch With New AI Feature Launched
Users can crunch more data on the device thanks to Google Pixel 8, which has more AI and machine learning capabilities.
In announcing its latest offerings on Wednesday, Alphabet’s Google showcased its latest smartphones and a smartwatch that incorporated artificial intelligence (AI).
While Google’s Pixel smartphones may not reach the same sales numbers as Apple’s iPhone, they serve as a showcase for the cutting-edge technology available in Android products. Pixels are particularly favored by photography enthusiasts and users who prefer the purity of Android, free from manufacturer modifications.
Google has strengthened its Pixel lineup with the introduction of the Tensor G3 mobile processor, a custom chip with enhanced AI and machine learning capabilities. This empowers users to process more data directly on their devices and in the cloud.
The AI features embedded in the Pixel 8 series enhance photography, provide web page summaries, and help filter out spam calls, as announced by Google executives during the Made by Google event in New York.
The Pixel 8 Pro, positioned as the high-end offering, even includes a Thermometer app for measuring body temperature, subject to approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Prices for the Pixel 8 start at $699, while the Pixel Pro 8 begins at $999, marking a $100 increase over the previous generation models. Both models will be available starting from October 12th.
Google’s focus on mobile AI was evident throughout the event, and the integration of AI directly on the device is poised to be a significant industry trend. According to IDC analyst Ryan Reith, “If supported by strong marketing, Google could gain higher market share with this lineup, especially in the US.”
Last month, Apple introduced a new series of iPhones with enhancements like a titanium shell, a faster chip, and improved gaming capabilities. Notably, Apple chose not to increase its prices, reflecting the global slowdown in smartphone demand.
Google Pixel currently holds the 12th position globally in terms of shipments, with a 0.9% market share, according to IDC. The latest updates are expected to make Pixel phones more appealing to holiday-season shoppers.

Google also revealed its plans to infuse generative AI capabilities into its virtual assistant, enabling it to assist users with tasks such as trip planning and email management, while also engaging in meaningful follow-up conversations.
Google has introduced the Google Watch 2, an enhanced iteration of its initial smartwatch released in October 2022. This new offering starts at $349 and comes equipped with a digital crown and advanced AI-driven health monitoring capabilities.
